Falling Springs 2 is the most recent and ninth major work in the Waterfall series. Commissioned as an iteration on Falling Springs 1, the painting depicts Falling Springs Falls in Falling Springs, VA, outside of Covington. A waterfall I've climbed to the bottom of and played in since I was a teenager, the subject is particularly close to my heart. I focused on using the vertical perspective to convey movement and immediacy, while maintaining a cohesiveness in tone and style throughout. The bottom of the waterfalls is blocked in by cliffs on two sides, and everything about it is flowing down into one body, and I wanted to convey that lack of hard division in the painted result.
