Little Blue is the second work in the Constellation series. Painted on a transparent ground, revealing the color and texture of the canvas underneath, this painting is the first of my drip paintings that I consider successful. Highly diluted blue paint (primarily Prussian and Cerulean blue) was brushed over the whole canvas, then in subsequent layers only across the top, creating the cascading effect visible in the final piece. The curve at the top of the painting is intended to convey a sense of the weight of the falling paint, while maintaining a boundary line, or proverbial cliff edge, that allows the viewer to be drawn in to the painting.
Little Blue was featured in the Advanced Painting Exhibition, the March 2015 Waterfalls exhibition, and the April 2015 exhibition Trumbull Senior Show.
